The Road
Never heard of Burnt Mill Road??
Burnt Mill Road is a road that is easily missed. It is off of a road known as “The Old White Horse Pike”. If you get on the Old WHP in town, off of Bartram Ave, and head toward Waterford and Ancora, right after you go over a hill created by a train overpass its right there, on the left, as you come down the hill. It is also the road that takes you to the Atco Municipal Utilities complex.

Burnt Mill Road goes quite a ways then turns to dirt as it enters the state forest. If you keep going on that dirt road it will take you deep into the pines. When it finally ends you are on a road known as Sandy Causeway. Without a 4 wheel drive vehicle though, you probably wouldn’t make it that far. Go to the left and you are headed towards Gosham Pond camp area and to the right you are headed to Hammonton. There are also some roads that will kind of take you straight out to Rt 206 and if you cross that and stay on the dirt roads you are really headed out there. Your headed to Batsto, and the Mullica River, along some seriously soft sand roads.

As Burnt Mill Road turns to dirt you can see that this old, narrow road, which use to be traveled by horse and wagon, is a long narrow trail that looks ok by daylight but what about when its dark.
